Algiz
A rune of protection, alignment, and the quiet reaching toward the unseen

The Piece
This piece was formed in stone and brought to clarity in the Forge of Elaryn.
The rune was engraved at the centre of the stone, allowing its simple vertical form and branching lines to settle clearly within the circular surface. The surrounding stones echo the natural balance of the symbol, giving the piece a grounded presence.
Its form remains minimal yet expressive, allowing the rune to stand quietly within the material.
The Symbol
Algiz is one of the protective runes of the Elder Futhark, the oldest runic alphabet used in early Germanic traditions.
Its shape resembles an open hand or branching antlers reaching upward, symbolising protection, awareness, and the connection between the earthly and the spiritual realms. In ancient contexts the rune was often associated with guardianship and higher guidance.
Across time the symbol has been understood as a mark of protection and alignment. A sign that calls awareness to the forces surrounding and sustaining life.
Within the Forge the Algiz rune represents quiet guardianship: a symbol that stands upright between earth and sky.
Status
In the Forge
This piece began with the central vertical line of the rune, establishing the axis that anchors the form.
The branching arms were then engraved outward, allowing the proportions of the rune to remain balanced within the stone. The surrounding stones were arranged to echo the protective gesture suggested by the symbol itself.
As light moves across the surface the rune reveals a subtle contrast between line and stone, giving the impression of a mark that has quietly emerged from the material.
