Dragonfly

A mark of transformation, light, and the quiet dance between water and air

dragonfly

The Piece

This piece was formed in stone and brought into clarity in the Forge of Elaryn.

The dragonfly was engraved within a circular field, its slender body and open wings balanced carefully within the stone. The shape carries a sense of movement, yet rests quietly within the material.

The wings extend lightly from the centre, allowing the form to feel both delicate and precise. The surrounding surface remains calm, giving the symbol space to breathe.

Its presence remains simple and refined, allowing the dragonfly to emerge as a quiet gesture of motion, light, and transformation.

The Symbol

The dragonfly has long been recognised as a symbol of transformation, clarity, and the shifting nature of perception.

Living part of its life in water before taking flight in air, it embodies the movement between elements and the moment of emergence from one state into another.

Across cultures the dragonfly has been associated with adaptability, awareness, and the ability to move lightly through change. Its wings, often shimmering in sunlight, evoke the fleeting beauty of moments that cannot be held.

Within the Forge the Dragonfly represents transformation with grace, a symbol of subtle change carried by lightness.

In the Forge

This piece began with the central axis of the dragonfly, establishing the vertical line that anchors the form.

From there the wings were engraved outward in balanced pairs, ensuring the symbol remained centred and harmonious within the circle. The lines were kept fine and deliberate, preserving the light quality of the insect's wings.

The intention was not to recreate the creature in detail, but to capture its essence through simple geometry and proportion.

As light moves across the stone, the wings reveal subtle shifts of shadow, giving the impression of a form poised between stillness and flight.
