Solar Wheel

A symbol of radiance, movement, and the enduring turning of light

sun wheel-1

The Piece

This piece was formed in stone and brought to clarity in the Forge of Elaryn.

At the centre a circular sun is surrounded by radiating lines that extend outward like rays of light. The engraved form settles naturally within the round stone surface, creating a quiet balance between centre and movement.

The surrounding ring of small stones echoes the circular rhythm of the symbol itself, giving the piece a grounded presence that reflects the steady motion of the sun across the sky.

The Symbol

The solar wheel is one of the oldest solar symbols found across many ancient cultures.

Its radiating spokes represent the spreading of light, energy, and life. In early traditions the wheel form symbolised the turning of the seasons and the cyclical movement of the sun through the year.

Variations of the sun wheel appear in prehistoric carvings, sacred ornaments, and early cosmological diagrams. The circle expresses unity, while the spokes suggest motion and illumination.

Within the Forge the sun wheel represents the quiet turning of light — the steady presence that brings warmth, clarity, and renewal.

In the Forge

This piece began with the central circle, establishing the sun as the point of balance within the form.

The radiating lines were then engraved outward, allowing the geometry of the wheel to remain even and centred within the stone surface. Each spoke was shaped carefully to preserve the symmetry of the symbol.

As light moves across the stone the engraved rays reveal subtle shifts between shadow and form, giving the impression of a symbol quietly emerging from the material itself.
