The Gate of Silence

The Stone
This stone carries a mark shaped to evoke a threshold.
The engraving begins with a vertical line rising from the base of the stone, meeting a curved arc that opens outward like a quiet gateway. Above it rests a simple circle, suspended lightly in the surface.
The form feels deliberate yet restrained, allowing the stone itself to remain dominant. Its dark surface absorbs light, revealing the engraving slowly as shadow shifts across it.
In the hand the stone feels calm and inward, as though the mark it carries marks the entrance to a quieter place of attention.
The form suggests an opening.
The presence invites stillness.
The Ode
Silence has often been described not as absence, but as a passage.
The Gate of Silence reflects this movement inward. The arcs of the mark suggest a threshold, while the circle above recalls awareness resting quietly beyond the boundary of ordinary thought.
Across contemplative traditions, silence has been understood as the place where perception deepens and listening becomes possible.
The mark does not represent a barrier.
It marks the moment of crossing, when attention settles and a deeper quiet begins to speak.

In the Making
The mark was engraved in a sequence of careful, balanced movements.
The lower arc was traced first to establish the threshold shape, followed by the vertical line that anchors the form within the stone. The circle was then opened above, completing the quiet alignment of the symbol.
As light passes across the dark surface, the arcs appear and disappear within the shadows.
The stone remains understated, holding the mark as a quiet indication of the passage it represents.
