LISTENING FLAME

A small flame of attention

Small flame burning on a candle in darkness

Essence

Listening begins in stillness.

Before answers,
before interpretation.

A small flame appears
in the quiet of awareness.

It does not demand.

It simply burns.

And in its light,
what is true becomes visible.

Invitation

Notice what you hear
when nothing is asked of you.

A thought passing.

A feeling beneath the surface.

A quiet knowing
waiting to be recognised.

Listening begins
when we stop reaching.

Practice

Sit with a candle,
or imagine a small flame before you.

Allow your breathing to slow.

Listen inwardly,
as if waiting for a distant sound.

Often the most faithful guidance
arrives as a gentle warmth
rather than a loud voice.

A small flame can illuminate more than a bright argument.
